Virtual Reality Gets Physical at TLC

Virtual reality technology has been a part of TLC Healthcare’s wellbeing programs, and as a form of entertainment for residents, for several years. TLC is extending this with the integration of virtual reality interactive walls for their physical wellbeing programs. Australia’s first interactive virtual reality wall, specifically designed for residential aged care, has been installed at TLC’s flagship aged care home in the Melbourne suburb of Clifton Hill. Working with leading virtual reality developers, TLC has adapted SeeWall technology for use by aged care residents with limited mobility. Interactive experiences allow residents to touch and throw objects at the virtual canvas, promoting dexterity and both physical and mental activity.

A New Integrated Approach to Physical Wellbeing at TLC

We have all heard the expression “if you don’t move it, you lose it”. Maintaining physical activity is key to enjoying life in our later years. With this in mind, TLC Healthcare has launched its TLC Wellbeing physical health program designed to keep their residents moving on a regular basis and tracking their physical activity. For several years, TLC has been incorporating a range of state-of-the-art gyms and hydrotherapy pools into its residential aged care homes. Their new physical health program will utilise those facilities, and their existing fitness classes, to build tailored physical activity programs for its residents. The goal of the program is to document the activity that the residents are undertaking to show evidence of how that activity is improving their overall strength, agility and balance.
